Life starts at conception

I believe life starts at conception. Conception is the beginning of a unique human journey, with a unique DNA code that guides development from embryo to fetus and eventually birth. While consciousness, awareness and the capacity to suffer may develop later, I question whether these characteristics should determine when life begins. No human life can exist without conception, so I believe conception is the starting point of life.
